For the sake of keeping this article short I’ll just cover why new Kenmore refrigerators are over engineered. Let’s take a look at the new Kenmore french door refrigerator 795 model.
Whew weeee, what an absolutely beautiful refrigerator! The Kenmore 795 model with it’s stainless steel finish (or black stainless if you’re feeling fancy), boasts near 30 cubic feet of space, adjustable slide away shelves and over sized deli drawers to hold all the food you’ll ever need. Some models even let you connect your refrigerator via wifi directly to your phone.
With an MRSP of $3,899.00 you must be buying a quality refrigerator. Right? I mean Kenmore has the best name around when it comes to appliances, right? Wrong!
You’ve Just Been Swindled!
You’ve just been swindled by “Big Business” and “Kenmore 795” took you for a ride all the way to the cleaners. Say goodbye to your near $4K investment, it is gone and you won’t be getting it back. Don’t believe me? Pull your refrigerator out from the wall, go behind it and take off the (8) 1/4 inch screws holding the bottom quarter panel on. Now look at the manufacturer label on your compressor.
If your Kenmore refrigerator is still cooling you may want to go ahead and dispense yourself a nice cold glass of water from the dispenser on your 100% LG made refrigerator to help calm your nerves.
What’s Wrong With Kenmore 795 Refrigerators?
Well, for starters it’s an LG made refrigerator. The only thing worse than a Samsung refrigerator is an LG refrigerator. You’ve bought the worst refrigerator on the market! I’ve personally gone into thousands of homes where customers thought they did their due diligence, checked reviews and were buying a good Kenmore made refrigerator.
Kenmore 795 refrigerators have approximately 6 computer boards on them. Two in the dispenser, two on top of the door and 1-2 in the back PCB area and perhaps another one somewhere I may be missing. Multiple water valves and the absolute worst compressor ever made in the history of refrigerators.

You know, that good old school Kenmore refrigerator with a compressor that runs for decades and is passed down to grandchildren. It may have rust on it, door sagging and be the ugliest thing in your home but it’s still cooling. When I do work on that old school Kenmore refrigerator I’m replacing $10 parts not $500 computer boards or $900 compressor jobs. Our appliance repair bill is reflected in the price of parts.
Buy Fancy Refrigerators, Pay Fancy Repair Prices
I know I slam Kenmore refrigerators, model 795, LG refrigerators and don’t worry because I’m gonna absolutely destroy Samsung refrigerators in my next weeks article titled “Samsung Refrigerator, The Most Beautiful Peace Of Junk You Can Buy” but I want you, the reader, to know there are better more cost effective options on the market.

There Are Good Refrigerators
There are still good refrigerators on the market. You want to try and find one with a “mechanical timer” instead of a computer board. These are normally in lower end top and bottom refrigerators. Some are still actually put in side by side models and very few in french door refrigerators. They can operate the entire refrigerator without the use of any computer or PCB boards and are super cheap to replace (part cost around $10) and most importantly there are EXTREMELY dependable!
The Best Brand Refrigerator To Buy
I can’t give you an answer on what brand refrigerator to buy because all the manufacturers make junk refrigerators at one point or another. I can suggest you do your due diligence and research your model number before you buy the refrigerator. Look at a parts break down. You can easily do this here at Sears Parts Direct, just type your refrigerator model number directly into their search bar and you’ll have a complete breakdown of parts. Kenmore is a brand of appliance sold by Sears. The brand is now owned by Transform Holdco, an affiliate of ESL Investments since the Sears went bankrupt in 2018. As of 2017, Kenmore products are produced by manufacturers including Whirlpool, LG, Electrolux, Panasonic, Cleva North America, and Daewoo Electronics. So to answer the question, yes Kenmore still has some good appliances.
They don’t make them like they used to. I’d suggest going to Sears Parts Direct website, typing model number of refrigerator and see what parts are in the refrigerator you are about to buy. That being said, most manufacturers have a few different brands that tend to last longer. Our favorites are inexpensive GE, Maytag and Amana refrigerators.
A typical compressor replacement runs between $600-$800 depending on the brand of refrigerator. Higher end refrigerators such as Subzero and Thermador can easily top $1600 for a compressor replacement.
If you are spending in excess of $3,000 to buy a refrigerator I’d highly recommend paying a little extra for an extended warranty. The warranty will most likely pay for itself within a few years.
